The Kahnawà:ke Education Center consists of 3 schools, a main office building adjacent to Kateri School, two satellite offices as well as various out buildings. All these spaces are cleaned and maintained by a diligent team of Building Attendants and Janitors. Each of our three sites has a building attendant. Together they bring over 80 years of experience to the job. This allows them to be proactive in their positions.
The schools are fairly new in comparison to other school systems.
- Kateri School: original construction 1940s, renovation and expansion 2004. In 2004 Kateri School opened in what was virtually a new building. More than half the building was brand new with a cafeteria and modern gymnasium. The old part of the school at that time was renovated from top to bottom. Today there are very few traces of the original building inside aside from floors and walls.
- Karonhianonhnha School: the new school was opened in 2005 replacing an older facilty on the same property. This new building allowed for more appropriate learning spaces and more modern facilities for the growing student body.
- Kahnawà:ke Survival School: in 2008 Survival School was brought under a single roof after being on a campus with various buildings. This new building for its time was state of the art in terms of energy use. It incorporates geothermal heating and cooling as well as natural convection ventilation. As technologies change we are incorporating them into KSS to ensure it is always an example in terms of energy use
