Kaio’tenhserí:io (WOTP) Program
& The Life Skills Program
Program Overview
The Kaio’tenhserí:io (Work Oriented Training Program - WOTP) program and Life Skills programs are Senior School programs designed to provide students with a gradual transition into work and community life. There are two pathways within the Life Skill Program, Pre-work Training and Training for a Semi-skilled Trade.
The first year of the program is solely academic while the second and third years allow students to gain real life experiences in the workforce.

Kaio’tenhserí:io WOTP Pathway is designed for students who, at 15 years of age, are working at a Grade 9 and above level in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
It enables students to become familiar with the characteristics and obligations of the working world and to develop competencies as workers. In Year I, students practice work tasks within the school setting. In Years II & III, students work in the community and develop specific competencies associated with one or more semi-skilled trades.
- Understands the requirements of different work situations (Introduction to the World of Work)
- Performs tasks associated with different work situations (Introduction to the World of Work)
- Develops specific competencies associated with one or more semi-skilled trades (Works Skills)
- Adopts attitudes and behaviors appropriate to different work situations (Both courses)
Preparation for the Job Market:
It enables students to make a smooth transition between school and the job market. It gives them an opportunity to prepare for the challenges involved in entering the job market and provides reference points to help them develop and implement a socio-vocational integration plan.

Autonomy & Social Participation
It is designed to help students acquire tools that they will need to meet their needs on their own, to live in harmony with themselves and with others, and to make their contribution to society.
- Demonstrates autonomy in everyday situations
- Takes an informed position on everyday issues
- Participates in community life (experiments with community service)
Eligibility:
- Have had a consultation with the KSS Principal and administrators
- Needs extra help progressing through a Grade 9 and above level in English Language Arts and Mathematics
- Be 15 years of age (or older)
Upon Graduation:
Students who successfully complete their secondary level credits receive a regular high school diploma.

Pre-work Training (PWT):
Designed for students who, at 15 years of age (or older), are progressing at an elementary level in their literacy and numeracy skills. The goal of the PWT is to offer students a gradual and supportive transition into work and community life.
Life Skills PWT Eligibility:
- Have had a consultation with the KSS Principal and administrators
- Be progressing at an elementary level in their literacy and numeracy skills
- Be 15 years of age (or older)
Upon Graduation:
Life Skill’s Pre-work Students who successfully complete the work placement requirements of the PWT program receive an official Pre-work Training Certificate (PWTC), which attests their overall employability skills.
Training for a Semi-skilled Trade (TST):
Designed for students who, at 15 years of age, are working at a Grade 7 & 8 level in English Language Arts and Mathematics
Life Skill’s TST Elegibility:
- Have had a consultation with the KSS Principal and administrators
- Be working at a Grade 7 level in English Language Arts and Mathematics
- Be 15 years of age (or older)
Upon Graduation
Life Skill’s Semi-Skilled Trade Students who successfully complete the TST program receive an official Training Certificate for a Semi-skilled Trade (TCST). The TCST indicates the specific Semi-skilled Trade in which the student received training.
