Kahnawà:ke Education Center (KEC) 17 Tsothóhrha/December 2021 -The Kahnawà:ke Education Center met with Local Public Health today to determine a plan of action to ensure a safe return to our schools.
Due to increasing numbers of COVID-19 cases, anticipated holiday gatherings, and unknown factors regarding the Omicron variant and its rapid spread, the Kahnawà:ke Education Center is extending the winter break to January 7, 2022. We need to stress that the COVID-19 Omicron variant is highly transmissible, especially to children ages ten and under. Implementing this extension enables us to evaluate the situation, mitigate risk and plan for minimal disruptions upon school reopening. As such, we will be implementing the following return to our offices and schools:
Monday, January 10, 2022 - Staff to return
Tuesday, January 11, 2022 - Students to return
In order to facilitate an easier transition back to school, we developed this preventative plan. We ask that you consider the following:
- Monitor any COVID-19 symptoms and get tested if necessary
- As much as possible, we encourage you to remain within your family bubbles and practice preventative measures when out in public
- Although we discourage traveling this winter break, we ask that you plan well if you expect to travel to the United States or internationally as isolation time is required upon return.
- We need to stress that you please refrain from traveling especially during the additional time given for this winter break
Please continue to stay vigilant during this holiday break be mindful; follow the guidelines for masking, hygiene, and distancing.
