KEC welcomes two Associate Principals to their Administrative team


Kahnawà:ke Education Center (KEC) Kahnawà:ke, Quebec – 21 Onerahtóhkó:wa/May  2021 - We are very pleased to announce that Iakohsontí:io McComber has been hired on an indeterminate basis as Associate Principal of Kahnawake Survival School and Iakowennaiéwas Falen Jacobs has been hired as Associate Principal of Karonhianónhnha Tsi Ionterihwaienstáhkhwa. 

Iakohsontí:io has been working as Interim Associate Principal of KSS since November of 2020, she has proven herself worthy especially working in the capacity during the past challenging year.  She has been in the KEC school system since 2003.  Being a proud member of the Alumni, she is well aware of the history and relevance of KSS.  Graduate of the Kanien’kéha Ratiwennahní:rats program, Iakohsontí:io possesses the influential proficiency of the Kanien’kéha language.  She has extensive credentials in education including a McGill Literacy Certificate, McGill Teaching Certificate and she has just completed her Bachelor of Education. 

Iakohsontí:io had this to say, “I am happy to be a part of Administration.  My experience this year as Interim Associate Principal helped me decide that I wanted to pursue this position as an indeterminate employee.”

Iakowennaiéwas Falen Jacobs is set to start her new role in August of 2021.  She will be replacing Lauren Jacco as Interim Principal for her first few months at Karonhianónhnha.  Lauren will return to her role as Principal in December of 2021, and at that time, Falen will assume her role as Associate Principal on an indeterminate basis.

Falen has worked in the capacity of Resource Teacher at Kateri School for the past 4 years.  She joined our team in 2016 after working at Step-by-Step Child and Family Center.  She has 15 years of experience working in education.  She has a Master of Education in the field of Educational Psychology and Inclusive Education and is currently registered in Part 1 of the Master of Arts in Educational Leadership Program at McGill University. 

Falen has the following message to share with staff, students and parents of Karonhianónhnha Tsi Ionterihwaienstáhkhwa, “Skén:nen sewakwé:kon. Iakowennaié:was ióntiats tánon' tekatenonhwerá:tons tsi Karonhianónhnha Tsi Ionterihwaienstáhkhwa enkwatia'tahrhahse'. I am looking forward to an exciting year filled with new teaching and learning opportunities for all. I am very grateful to be granted the opportunity to work closely with parents, students and staff in order to promote the school’s vision, mission and by keeping Tsi Niionkwarihò:ten and our values as Kanienkehaka at the forefront as we move forward together.”
