Kahnawà:ke Education Center (KEC) (Kahnawà:ke, Quebec – 17 Kentenhkó:wa/November 2020)- The Kahnawà:ke Education Center would like to announce some changes to the administrative team of Kahnawake Survival School.  Iakohsontí:io McComber, who has been teaching within the Kahnawake Education Center system since 2003 will be taking on the role of Interim Associate Principal effective immediately.  Iakohsontí:io is confident in assuming this position for the remainder of the year as she has been working in a similar capacity since the beginning of the 2020/2021 school year.  She is also nearing the completion of her Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

This comes into effect as Merrick Diabo, who has been the Associate Principal since February of 2019 chose to resign from the position to resume his role as Social Counsellor of KSS.  In addition to his roles, Merrick would like to focus on areas of prevention, student programming, and parental involvement.  He had this comment to make:

I would like to take this time to make a statement regarding my employment with the Kahnawake Education Center. I am stepping down from the position of Associate Principal of Kahnawake Survival School to refocus my efforts and skill base to the title of Social Counsellor. In these days of uncertainty, what I am certain of is that I want to connect to my strengths as an employee of KEC.

I have learned so much in my time as Associate Principal and will continue to work closely with the Administration of Kahnawake Survival School to support the social and emotional well-being of our students and families. This was not a decision that came easily, as I am aware that it has an impact on various levels; however, it was a decision that was deliberated on, carefully, and without haste.

I am extremely thankful for the opportunity and confidence that was given to me in the capacity of Associate Principal. I look forward to continuing my work with the youth of our community, specifically at Kahnawake Survival School. Nia:wen.

The Kahnawake Education Center would like to take this opportunity to thank Merrick for the invaluable input and time he has contributed to KSS and KEC during his time as Associate Principal, especially during these unforeseen times.
