KEC Announces New Administrative Updates for Karonhianónhnha Tsi Ionterihwaienstáhkhwa and Kahnawà:ke Survival School

Kahnawà:ke Education Center (KEC) (Kahnawà:ke, Quebec – 24 Ohiarí:ha/June 2020) - The Kahnawà:ke Education Center is pleased to announce the following hires in school administration:

Karonhianónhnha Tsi Ionterihwaienstáhkhwa

The Kahnawà:ke Education Center would like to announce that Sarah Kaniehtenhá:wi Phillips has been hired as Karonhianònhnha Tsi Ionterihwaienstáhkhwa Interim Principal effective August 17, 2020.  Sarah will be replacing Lauren Jacco until her return from maternity leave in August of 2021. Kaniehtenhá:wi brings with her, extensive knowledge of our language and culture. 

Kaniehtenhá:wi said “Kwé sewakwé:kon! Kaniehtenhá:wi ni ióntiats tánon wakatshennón:ni tsi ó:nen Karonhianónhnha ne akwá:tsire ki niiohserá:te tá:we! Hello staff, parents and students! I am excited and eager to gain new experiences and adventures with new colleagues and families. I look forward to meeting you all very soon!”

Karonhianónhnha Tsi Ionterihwaienstáhkhwa will see Carlie Katsi’tsahawe Splicer and Wahienha:wi McGregor replacing former Associate Principal Kanerahtanonhnha Jacobs on a one-year contract following Kanerahtanonhnha’s decision to return to teaching at Karonhianònhnha after a three-year term as Associate Principal. 

We wish Lauren and Kanerahtanonhnha success and happiness as they embark on new adventures. 

Kahnawà:ke Survival School

We are pleased to announce Merrick Diabo is the successful candidate for the indeterminate KSS Associate Principal position, effective July 1, 2020.  Merrick has been the interim Associate Principal since February of 2019.  In light of his successful transition, Merrick would like to send the following message, “I would like to thank the KEC for their confidence in me and recognizing the strengths that I bring to the KSS family. While the position has been a challenging one with a high learning curve, I am confident that I will be able to continue to support our remarkable youth and community for years to come.  With the support from an amazing mentor, Principal Jackie Leclaire who allows me to be creative, and trusts that I am capable of making sound decisions that benefit the students and Kahnawake Survival School, I will be able to ensure that our youth have a stable foundation moving forward.  I would like to thank my family most of all as they pushed me and remained firm in encouraging me along this road.”

Finally, Iakohsónti:io McComber will be taking on the role of KSS Student Life and Prevention Administrator for a 2-year term beginning August 17, 2020.

We look forward to working with our new Administrators and welcome them to the KEC administrative team.
