Measures are being taken within the Kahnawà:ke Education Center and the schools to avoid viral transmissions

Kahnawà:ke Education Center (KEC) (Kahnawà:ke, Quebec – 10 Ennisko:wa/March 2020) – As you may be aware, the Coronavirus (COVID19) is an ongoing global concern. The KEC, MCK Public Safety and Kateri Hospital are monitoring the situation daily. We would like to take this time to inform the community of the measures being taken within the Kahnawà:ke Education Center and the schools. There have only been a few reported cases in Quebec and the risk remains low.

Enhanced Cleaning Procedures

Our maintenance teams are following their flu protocols and increasing their cleaning cycles on “high touch” surfaces (faucets, door handles, light switches and elevator buttons). As a measure to reduce transmission, the water fountains have been turned off as well.

General Prevention Measures

We also would like to remind everyone of the following measures to reduce the risks of transmission:

  • Frequent hand washing: soap and water for 40 seconds minimum ( easy rule of thumb is to hum happy birthday twice
  • Use an alcohol based sanitizer when water and soap are not available
  • Sneeze and cough into your arm and not your hand
  • If you use a tissue, wash your hands after

If you or a family member should show any symptoms (fever, cough, strained breathing) :

  • Call Info Santé at 811
  • Self-isolate

The health and safety of staff, students and community members is our priority.  We provide updates as they become available.
