KCSC Communiqué: Legislation Update

Legislation Update

Kahnawà:ke Combined Schools Committee (KCSC) (Kahnawà:ke, Quebec – Wednesday, November 27, 2019)

In January 2018, the Kahnawà:ke Combined Schools Committee (KCSC) began a process to review and update the KCSC legislation; that is, documents that were developed by the community and past committees for the purpose of directing and guiding the KCSC in its roles and responsibilities.

These legislation documents include the Kahnawà:ke Education Responsibility Act (KERA), the KCSC Constitution and By-Laws, and the KCSC Governance Manual.

Between January and May 2018, the KCSC held several consultation sessions where the community was invited to review these documents together with the KCSC for feedback.  A final parent vote to pass the legislation took place on June 25, 2018.  Since then, it became apparent that revisions were necessary to make the documents clearer and more reader-friendly.  There are also areas in the documents that require more input from the stakeholders (Parents, Post-Secondary students over eighteen (18+), and the Community).

To date, revisions have been made to the Constitution and By-Laws and KERA.  You will be able to download the revised documents soon at www.kecedu.ca.  Due to the KCSC Governance Manual being a substantial document, revisions will follow the ratification of the revised KCSC Constitution and By-Laws and KERA.

A survey has also been developed to accompany the revised two (2) aforementioned draft legislation documents highlighting specific areas that require the most input.  You will also be able to download the survey soon at www.kecedu.ca

Input from our stakeholders is important and invaluable.  You will be given the opportunity to provide input, comments and/or questions regarding the revised legislation.  Once the review and survey are completed, the compiled results will be posted publicly for two (2) weeks for your final review followed by a parent vote at a KCSC Special Meeting held for this purpose.

Please stay tuned!  More information will be posted soon on the KEC website and Facebook pages.
