Kahnawà:ke Education Center (KEC) (Kahnawà:ke, Quebec – 02 Kenténha ~ October 2019) – The KEC has been monitoring the ongoing KSS Wrestling issue.  We acknowledge that there are issues needing resolution and we are supporting the relationship between our volunteers and KSS Administration.

Allegations made against KSS Administration through various sources of media have proven unfounded.  Past findings and current information indicate KSS administration supports the KSS wrestling program.  Further, the school clearly demonstrates strong support of the KSS wrestling program.  Where, how and by whom misinformation is being disseminated is highly concerning.  This situation is filtering to the school with a direct and negative impact on some students.  This is unacceptable.

The issue was addressed at a September 2019 KSS In-School Committee Meeting. The decision was to have coaches meet, discuss schedules and reach a solution to provide after school activities scheduling that benefit all students.  We stress it will remain at the school level, both for discussion and decision.

KSS Administration is responsible to ensure it meets the needs of all students; this includes supporting other school sports programs as well.  Wrestling has always been and continues to be a proud legacy of the school.

KSS students wishing to partake in sports programs is an ever-evolving landscape entirely based on student interest.  To support this initiative KSS Administration will be meeting with all coaching staff to put clear processes in place.  This ensures that scheduling and periodic accommodations are clearly understood by all coaches within the true, collaborative spirit of sport.

Our goal is to support all students involved in KSS sports programs.  Coaches experiencing concerns must address those issues first with their school administration who oversee and are responsible for all programs, whether academic or sports related.

We all have a priority to our students’ wellbeing.  This includes ensuring all students have access to after school sports programs that run on a volunteer basis.  The KEC is confident KSS administration, coaches and parents will reach a decision that benefits all students and sports programs offered at KSS.
