Kahnawà:ke Education Center (KEC) (Kahnawà:ke, Quebec – 12 Ennískó:wa/ March 2019) - The Kahnawà:ke Education Center is pleased to announce that Sohenrise Paul Nicholas has been hired as the Director of Finance and Administration for the Kahnawà:ke Education Center.
Nicholas is a Kanien’kehá:ka from Kanehsatake and holds a Bachelor of Commerce with a Major in Finance from Concordia University. He has extensive work experience in finance, planning, and in overall administrative roles. Since 2012, Nicholas has been working with the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke as a Project Leader where his work has included networking, and negotiating political and specific agreements with external governments and agencies.
Prior to working in Kahnawà:ke, Nicholas served as Grand Chief for the Mohawk Council of Kanehsatake from 2008 to 2012. His financial experience includes working in the position of Branch Manager at the Bank of Montreal in Akwesasne Mohawk Territory for two years, and he was also the President and Executive Director of the Kanehsatake Oriwashona Development Corporation (K.O.D.C) from 1999-2004. Nicholas’ position at K.O.D.C included management of community properties, economic development projects, as well the development and review of human resource policies and procedures. He also was self-employed as a Business Development Consultant assisting clients with business strategies, funding proposals, research and analysis, establishment of financial systems and implementation of marketing strategies.
KEC Director of Education Robin Delaronde is pleased to have Nicholas come into the position during a pivotal period in education. “On behalf of the KEC, I would like to welcome Sohenrise to our organization”, states Delaronde. “His sound and diverse background definitely is an asset as the KEC enters into a new interim funding formula. Together I can assure the community that we will deliver unique education programs and services that meet the diverse needs of Kahnawa’kehró:non now and into the future.”
On behalf of the Kahnawà:ke Combined Schools Committee (KCSC), Interim Chairperson Kaylea Curotte states that "the KCSC would like to welcome Paul Nicholas as the new Director of Finance and Administration for the KEC. Nicholas will begin working in his new position at the KEC Main Building on Monday, March 18th, 2019. He will be also be attending the First Nations Education Council (FNEC) meeting this week along with Director of Education Robin Delaronde to plan for a new federal funding formula.
