COMMUNIQUÉ
Director of Finance and Administration Update

Kahnawà:ke Education Center (KEC) (Kahnawà:ke, Quebec – 30 Kenténha / November 2018) - Louie John Diabo, the KEC’s Director of Finance and Administration, has advised the Kahnawà:ke Combined Schools Committee (KCSC) that he does not intend to return to his position at the end of a prolonged leave of absence.  Mr. Diabo has held the position for eleven and a half years and his absence will be a loss to the organization.  We wish him well in his future endeavours.

The role of Director of Finance and Administration is critical to the proper financial management of the KEC and compliance with its rigorous reporting duties. This is why at the onset of Mr. Diabo's leave, we engaged the services of a retired career professional who worked in finance administration his entire life here in Kahnawà:ke. Sadly, previous engagements prevent him from continuing in this role.

Given the tremendous demands of a job of this nature, no suitable candidate has been found who is willing and/or available to assume this interim position.  All qualified individuals in the specialized field of finance and administration are currently employed within the community or elsewhere.
Owing to the void created by Mr. Diabo’s departure, the dire need for the functions of the Director of Finance and Administration to be filled, the time required to properly hire a permanent replacement, and the challenges faced in obtaining the necessary interim support, the KCSC reached out to Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (MCK) for temporary assistance while engaging in the requisite hiring process.
The KCSC is pleased to announce that MCK will be partnering with the KEC to provide temporary support necessary to allow the KEC to continue to fulfill its financial and administrative obligations towards its employees, the students, and the community at large while the KEC focuses on finding its next permanent Director of Finance and Administration.
Paul Rice, MCK’s Executive Financial Officer, will be charged with collaborating with the KCSC and KEC to implement the interim measures.
The KCSC would like to thank MCK and Mr. Rice for their invaluable cooperation and assistance in sustaining education in Kahnawà:ke during this transitional period.

Signed respectfully on behalf of the KCSC,

Karonhí:io Curotte
Member of the Kahnawà:ke Combined Schools Committee, MCK Liaison
