The Kahnawà:ke Education Center (KEC) would like to remind students, parents, and
community members that cell phones and personal electronic devices are not permitted
for student use during the school day while on school grounds.

While schools continue to work diligently to support compliance with these expectations,
challenges related to cell phone and electronic device use remain. The KEC is committed
to addressing these concerns in partnership with parents, students, and the community,
with student well-being at the forefront of all efforts.

The KEC Discipline and Suspension Policy (updated in 2016) states that students are not
permitted to use cellphones or other personal electronic devices during the school
day, including during classes, breaks, and at school events. These expectations are in
place to support focused learning environments, meaningful social interactions, and the
overall well-being of students.

Reducing the use of personal electronic devices during the school day aligns with KEC's
commitment to providing students with high-quality learning opportunities rooted in
Kanien'kehá:ka culture, language, values and traditions. By minimizing distractions,
students are better positioned to engage in their learning, build positive relationships, and
develop the skills needed for success.

Parents with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact their school administration
directly. KEC will continue to work collaboratively with schools and families to promote
consistent expectations and effective approaches that support student success, safety,
and well-being.
